Back after 10 years
I've dusted off my instruments after an absence from the music scene for more than 10 years and I'm back. It is hard to get music out of the blood once its there... But I had other things to do.

One of the first projects I am involved with is playing the blues, with a bit of rock added for good measure. I joined the Undercover Rock'n'Blues Band.

But I am also beginning to do shows performing my own original Afrikaans compositions, accompanied by 2B2. The songs cover a wide range of music styles from rock and blues, to reggae, ballads and folk.

2B2
When invited to perform at the original Houtstok Rock Festival in 1990, I did not want to do my numbers solo, and got together a nice bunch of musicians. I called this band 2B2. After the festival we participated in the Houtstok tour with Anton Goosen en die Kommisie van Ondersoek, and Piet Botha. Two of our songs were included in the Houtstok album. The gig circuit was done for a while, and then we disbanded.

Now we have reformed. Only myself and the guitar player Kay Brugge are left from the original band. We now have an exciting new line-up with Lee Furter on keyboards and vocals, Dylan Schwartz on drums, and David on bass.

Our style is contemporary mature rock with a jazzy influence.

The songs
Although I have enough material for more than 3 hours performance, my present set contains about 1 hour 30 minutes of original material from different music styles.

There are a couple of blues numbers. The oldest is Kêfie Blues which I wrote in 1979. Other blues numbers are Middernag Blues (1990), Moerse Boere Blues (2003) and the more jazzy blues number Ek slaap alleen vannaand (1990).

Some songs are straight driving rock numbers, such as Suspisie (written in 1989), Die vure brand al laag (1989), and Augustus (1977), while Winter (1980) and Dwaal (1978, with a Latin-American beat) are laid-back rock numbers.

There are also a number of ballads: Weet jy, Die dolk van jou kyk (1989) and Applous (1992). The song Wat ek wil hê (1990) is in the reggae style, while Seil na jou (1978) is a 50s/60s kind of shoo-be-doo-wah song.

And then there is the folky Moeder Afrika (1992), and the folk-rock Handvol in die wind (1980).
